I have several good posts composed in my head, but don't feel now is the time to write them (some other things that need doing tonight). But I want to write more often, so here's a quick update of sorts.
Today I made a decision and found something out (that will come to fruition in who knows how many weeks) that are making me feel much lighter. The past week I went suddenly from feeling really good about life to feeling really discouraged. And now it seems some burdens will be lightened and just thinking they might be makes me feel better. Hooray.
Also, I was sick for half the week, but I'm finally feeling better so that makes me feel happier, too. My house is still a mess, the mountain of dishes in my sink is ludicrous, and the list of things undone isn't happy. But my body is strong again, so tomorrow I'll wake up and be able to conquer the world (or at least the dishes).
The weather here has been crazy. Cold days with lows near freezing (in the valley, mountains its well below). Then a warmer rainy day. Then a blazing hot with swim-through-it humidity. Then, suddenly, cold again. (Is this why I was sick? Quite possibly.) It's definitely turning to fall here, but not coming too quickly--for which I am grateful.
Yesterday I waited for a long time to get into Canada. Oh, the inspector did not like--not one little bit--my boxes for Salvation Army. Yes, it looks like I could be taking things to sell--but believe me, they're not that great. If you want them for free, you can have them.
Anyway, the point I was going to make: I waited for a long time for Canada. But then coming back to the US was the shortest stop ever. One car in front of me--I wait longer to get out of my driveway sometimes. It was fabulous.
Last Saturday I went hiking. Then Monday I went hiking again. Saturday's was good. Monday's was fantastic. Gorgeous day, great hike, incredible view. I am SO thankful for a car to be able to adventure around again, thankful to live near the mountains, thankful to be healthy and able to move around. I love hiking!
Also, I love teaching youth Sunday School. This is such a fabulous calling. :) The youth I teach are great, the curriculum is great, and I love to teach. Especially the gospel. This month I gave them a "Commandment Challenge"--they earn points for things like knowing the 10 Commandments in order, matching scriptures promising blessings to laws (tithing, chastity, fasting, etc.), marking scriptures, memorizing, etc. It's been really fun to see them get into it and learn. Now to think of adequate prizes! Today a young man came with his father (a member of the stake presidency (church leadership)) from an area a couple hours away. He heard about the challenge from the others, so asked if he could do it. He learned everything while waiting for his dad after church, so now I owe him a banana cream pie. :) Anyway, I love the youth and my calling.
Okay, friend is calling, so I'm going to sign off and call that a good update. :)
