One of my goals for this year is to communicate with an "old" friend each week--phone call, email, something to reach out to the people I love who Heavenly Father has put in my life through the years. I'm not necessarily hitting the one a week mark, but I have had some great conversations with dear friends. Truly, I have been SO blessed through the years with amazing people. Anyway, as I've talked to people it results that even those who read my blog don't necessarily know what I'm doing currently. So here's a brief update of the big and little right now.
I still live in Boston. In a couple of weeks, it will have been TWO years! That is difficult for me to believe. And I've been in my same house for a year and a half. Wowzer. Unfortunately I'll be out of town during my two year anniversary, otherwise I would have a party.
I'm teaching again. This summer I felt prompted to contact my supervisor and ask about teaching a class. It was during wedding prep, so I wanted to wait but felt I should do it now. He was working on the schedule and gave me a class (wanted to give me a couple, but I felt that one was sufficient--good choice!). I taught that one class, with 8 students, last fall. My dream team. They were amazing and it was one of the best, if not the best, teaching experience I've had. It was really good. This semester I'm teaching two classes, but they meet only half the time--so same amount of hours (with more pay). I'm now teaching research methods, so I don't grade writing. Boy, oh boy is life easier. :)
I also do lots of other jobs. Last fall I was working like crazy on some law cases. Now I'm waiting for those cases and occasionally do some work for them. I'm doing a pro bono case that I do not like; but I made the commitment so I plug along.
I also teach/tutor a lovely lady in English. She's a post-doc in a Harvard lab (co-worker with a ward friend) and her English is most excellent, but she wants practice. So every morning at 7:00a.m. we talk, sometimes read articles, etc. I'm pretty sure we spend more time "together" than anyone else in my life. I was worried about the every day at 7 commitment, but it's been just fine. In fact, when she went out of town for a week I felt very lost without it. Oh, our classes are on Skype, so sometimes I just roll out of bed at 10 'til, pray, and sit on my bed (in my pajamas) and have class. Other times I've been up and going for awhile.
And a little bit ago I started tutoring/teaching my roommate in an English writing/style class. It's fun.
Then there are the occasional cleaning or whatever jobs. All in all I keep busy. Through the Lord's grace, I've been able to support myself and continue paying off loans. This week I pay off my 2nd of 3 loans from law school (the 3rd one is the humdinger, but still the others represent thousands of dollars). I find it truly, truly miraculous.
I'm in a new ward-- Charles River Ward, the old singles ward. I love it! It is great in so many ways. My calling is to be the Provident Living leader for the whole ward (not just the Relief Society) and I'm figuring out lots of ways to magnify that calling (very flexible, so it's an adventure to figure out what the Lord wants me to do with it and how to best serve people).
And I fill in the rest of the time with lots of playing and serving and reading and sewing and cooking and talking to people and such. I went to my first hockey game a couple of days ago. Last night I started swimming lessons (hooray!).
Life is very good. I'm also figuring out more about what I want to do for the future, so stay tuned for developments in the months ahead. Also, look out for news from my family. There are mission papers being prepared and other good things happening.
So there you have it. If anything is missing, ask me questions and I'll give you answers.
