When I left Arkansas I took the cases for five clients with me. Three of them because no one else wanted to do them, one because it was almost complete, and one because the client loved me and didn't want another attorney. Eventually I convinced that last one to go with one of my former co-workers, because there was just so much to do on the case that needed in-person work. Which left me with four clients (well, four cases, which actually ends up being four families). All of whom I care about deeply. I tend to care about people a lot anyway, but these ones are magnified because of many factors, including the kinds of cases they are (all were victims of violent crimes) and the fact that I only have a few clients.
Today I got to call one of them and say one of my favorite things, "Tengo muy buenas noticias!" (I have very good news for you.) His petition was approved!!
This is four of four for me. I feel incredibly grateful (I think I might have died if any of them hadn't gotten approved). I wish I could tell you about the cases so you could appreciate how incredible and huge this is for them, but I'm not supposed to do that. So I'll refrain. Suffice it to say, sometimes I think that even if I never get to practice law, becoming an attorney would have been worth it for these amazing families.

Congratulations Ruth- that is awesome! And I hope someday you get to practice law and have this thrill over, and over, and over.
Just got caught up on your blog. That is so exciting, and I know they are so grateful. Aunt Jolene
