Party like it's 1999--Again

Last weekend I went to my 10 year high school reunion. 10 years and 2 days from the day we graduated, in many ways it felt like nothing had changed. And yet, so much had changed--and pretty much all for the better. So what was pretty good before was very good this time. Fun to see old friends and hear about others. Very few of the people I really knew (read: honors students, volleyball team and choir members) were there, which I was a little disappointed about. But somebody knew about every single person I asked about--the joys of a small town where people are related/go to church together/etc. Overall I was very pleased to hear about everyone's lives. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised with how well people have done with their lives (I know that may sound cynical, but really, I was so glad). Had some great conversations with people, some of whom I didn't know that well in high school Some have done some great growing up in life and it was great to see hear about the changes. Others were fabulous to start with (like Courtney and Sequoya, below). Anyway, I am so very, very glad I went. It was like facing the dragon--and finding out he's really just a nice little lizard. And, can I just tell you, I was grateful that I lived the way I did then because it's still how those people think of me and I'm glad, so glad, that I honorably represented my Savior even then.
[While I was in NC for the reunion I also had great visits with church members from Tarboro, a fantastic visit with Mr. Pollard, my choir teacher (who could also have a separate post), my awesome co-workers from Charlotte and Touria.

Tarboro High School, class of 1999During the day we had a Family Day at the park. It was really fun to see people's children!

yep, those are my classmates--with their gang signs and alcohol.
Can you find me?

With Sheba, a fellow choir member and someone who was always kind and loving, even in high school.

Some of my best experiences at the reunion were with these two couples. The boys were both in my class. I knew Isaac (on the left) fairly well; but not really T.J. Anyway, they've both married up in the world, grown up and are raising really neat families.

And Sequoya and Courtney. Sequoya said this was the Hispanic Honor Society reunion picture. Or, as we reminisced, the same little group that went to Washington, D.C. the summer before our senior year for a World Affairs Conference (an event that changed my life, maybe I'll write about it one day). These are also the two who stepped up and made the reunion happen. Kudos to them!

Oh, a note. I purposely posted this one on this post, because it's my 100th post. Nice round number to celebrate a nice round number.
Another note. Just need to point this out. If you can see my face up close (Sheba pictures is best bet) you'll see that I have a zit. Where did that come from? I never break out any more. On the few, few occasions I do there are hormonal reasons that weren't present this time around. I couldn't figure it out. Then that evening as I was getting ready I finally figured it out. It was just showing up for the high school reunion. :)
