I did it!!

1. Submit my U-visa article to law journals and try to get it published

Last winter I researched and wrote an article about a topic that has been bothering me for awhile. It's related to U visas, a special visa that is available for immigrants who are victims of violent crimes. I finished it in time to graduate and fully and completely intended to finish it and try to get it published. I want it published in part to get my work published, but also because I really believe the concerns I raise need to be raised and changes need to be made in the law.
Well, once school ended I could not get myself motivated to finish it. After 100 hours, I never wanted to see it again. Except I did. Long, story short it took me 7 months to get back to. Not that it was forgotten for 7 months. Oh, no, it was on my list of things to do. It was on my mind. It haunted my sleep. It nagged and nagged. It's number 1 on my list of 11 things. I had many false starts and half-hearted attempts to "think about it." Of course, the longer I waited, too, the more the field of law developed and the more work I needed to do. Ahhhh!

Finally, on Monday morning I got up and did it. I just did it. The end product was not the most polished thing I've ever done. But it is a completed project. And then I sent it to several journals to see if anyone will publish it.

I have no idea if they will or not. And at this point I don't care all that much. I'm just thrilled to have it done.

Done. Done. Done.

I've also been working on figuring out the next phase in my life. I'll update about that soon...

Good for you, Ruth!! I hope it will get published. Either way - I love the feeling of getting something done that has been on the to do list for a while. Hooray!
