What Windshield!

November 24, 2009

For some time now I have had a suspicion that my windshield is better than most. So many cars I ride in and see have cracks. Or at least nicks. My cars on my mission got nicks. I've taken a couple of friends' cars to be replaced/fixed (one just to be nice, one because I was driving it when it cracked). Most windshield's don't hold up to everything out there. But then there's my windshield. Not only no cracks, there are no nicks, nada. That wouldn't be unusual if I didn't drive my car anywhere, but I do. My car and I have been all over the country. We've driven on all kinds of roads (all kinds, truly) and all speeds and behind and beside all sorts of objects. I've had rocks and gravel and bugs and ice and who knows what else hit my windshield. And not a nick. So, I wondered, is it just a super duper windshield or what?

Suspicions and wondering aside. I now know that I have a super duper windshield.

On the way home for Thanksgiving I was driving between 70 and 75 mph down I-540 when suddenly the bottom half of a large glass bottle (either a 2-quart jar or a clear whiskey bottle) slammed into the middle of my windshield. It scared the dickens out of me. Made a terrible sound.

But that's it. No nick. No crack. No sign of the impact.

I have an awesome windshield. Or I'm just blessed.

Or both.

Yeah, you must be really lucky! I've had 3 windshields in my lifetime. A new one for every car I've owned.

I'm grateful that you were ok. Even if it didn't break, the noise might have caused some to swerve into another lane or something worse.
